NEIGHBORHOOD SPOTLIGHT: EAST SACRAMENTO!

Are you looking for the perfect Sacramento neighborhood to settle down in? Would you love to live in a place where you can bike or walk down beautiful streets filled with all the amenities you could ask for? If so, I’ve got the inside scoop on a great local hot spot that’s you’ve got to check out: East Sacramento! On this episode of Sac N Gaged, I’m giving you a tour of this charming collection of gorgeous homes, beautiful gardens, unique local eateries and more. We’ll spotlight just a few of this community’s amazing attractions to find out what makes East Sacramento so special.

It’s rare for a neighborhood to give you a small-town feel while maintaining a thriving small business community, but East Sac manages to do just that. Driving down tree-lined streets populated with lush sycamore and elm will take you back to simpler times, with both elegant mansions and smaller brick bungalows nestled against the sidewalks. The iconic ‘Fab 40’s’ neighborhood—which encompasses 38th to 47th street, J Street and Folsom Boulevard—is home to some of the most gorgeous architecture you’ll find in the state. From English and Spanish styles to Colonial, these properties are some of the most sought after in Sacramento! A few also boast famous histories: former president Ronald Reagan lived in a stately house on 45th street, while another was the setting for the film ‘Lady Bird’ staring actress Saoirse Ronan. Few can deny the appeal of this classic neighborhood, and it’s a must see in East Sac.

One of the amazing advantages of this neighborhood is its walkability: most of the homes are in walking distance of some of the city’s best shops, restaurants and cafes. From gastropubs and breweries to ethnic cuisine, there’s something delicious to try for every taste. You can stop by Hilltop Tavern, a local neighborhood bar, for a cold pint and a night of fun with weekly events. Craving something different? Head over to the Pasty Shack to try these traditional hand-held meat pies brought to American by immigrants during the Gold Rush. And if you don’t know what you’re in the mood for, a drive down Alhambra or Folsom Boulevard will give you plenty of options to pick from.

Besides the gorgeous homes and amazing businesses, East Sacramento is also home to the largest rose garden in Sacramento at McKinley Park. With over 1,200 roses and covering 1.5 acres, this beautiful garden is a popular attraction for visitors and locals alike. McKinley Park also boasts some great amenities, including a community center, garden and arts center, sports fields, jogging trail, swimming and wading pool and play areas for the kids. This family-friendly spot is a great addition to East Sacramento and provides the community with a pleasant diversion to the hustle and bustle and everyday life.
