TREASURE HUNT IN SACRAMENTO! DISCOVER ONE OF A KIND FINDS AT THE ANTIQUE COMPANY

Jacqueline Gage | Sep 06, 2019

A room filled with lots of lamps and a glass cabinet.

Are you a fan of the unusual, eclectic, and unique?  Are you looking to find the perfect pieces to decorate your home, but are bored with what the big chain stores have to offer?  I’ve found another perfect hidden gem here in Sacramento, and I know you’re going to love it!  On this episode of Sac N Gaged, we’re visiting The Antique Company, a local antique store run by British-born Steve Sylvester.  Join me on my treasure hunt as we discover the one-of-a-kind finds that The Antique Company has to offer!

You can’t miss this big blue building on the corner of X Street and 21st, and what you’ll find inside will pleasantly surprise you. Remnants of the past live on inside The Antique Company, from the classy to the bizarre, with something for every taste and style. The company’s history has its roots overseas: Steve dealt in antiques back home in England, with a shop on the south coast in the town of Brighton. In 2000, he headed to America to set up a new shop in a small 1,000 sq. ft. location in Sacramento, importing their stock from historically-rich Europe.

It soon became apparent that the small space Steve had would not contain his wonderful treasures from abroad, and a 4-year search began to find the right location for The Antique Company. Their current location proved to be worth the wait, though even 7,000 sq. ft. proves to be a tight squeeze for the truckloads of new goodies delivered every 2 days from Steve’s warehouse. The store is constantly being replenished, and you can always find something different and unique every time you shop.

The Antique Company carries a variety of historic treasures, including furniture, stained glass, lamps, jewelry, china, décor, and mid-century teak pieces from a famous furniture company in England. Amongst these core categories, there are hundreds of miscellaneous items that are sure to catch your eye! A small garden area also offers great accents for your outdoor space, with a good selection of iron trellises, baskets, pots, fencing and planters as well as statuary and ceramic farm sinks. Whether you’re looking for small accents and trinkets for your home or large statement pieces, everyone can find that perfect item that speaks to their style.

As the sole owner, Steve loves the joy that comes from hand selecting thousands of unique items that later find a home with the people of Sacramento. With all the work that goes on behind the scenes—paperwork, regulations, customs and taxes—it’s all worth it to see the antiques finally stocked and fly off the shelves. With such intimate knowledge of his inventory, Steve knows the answers to questions about anything and everything in the store, so feel free to ask!

So if you’re looking for that one-of-a-kind treasure, be sure to stop at The Antique Company to find your special piece. Shop their eBay store, check out their website, or come in person to really experience these awesome finds from around the world. You’re bound to find something that will perfectly accent your home for many years to come.
